🚨 UPDATE: Cowboys Star Faces Potential NFL Fine After Dak Prescott and Dallas Suffer 28-20 Loss

UPDATE: The Dallas Cowboys’ painful 28-20 loss to the New York Giants has produced another headache for America’s Team, with multiple Dallas players potentially facing NFL fines after incidents during the season opener.

The Cowboys wanted the 2026 season to begin with a statement.

Instead, Dallas left MetLife Stadium with a disappointing 28-20 defeat, defensive questions and now the possibility of additional punishment from the NFL.Dak Prescott setting high expectations for Cowboys and their offense - Odessa American

While some social-media posts have connected quarterback Dak Prescott to a potential massive fine, current reports do not identify Prescott as the Cowboys player facing disciplinary action.

The attention is instead focused on several incidents involving other Dallas players.

Dak Prescott Was Not the Player Flagged for the Potential Fine

Prescott certainly had a difficult night.

The Cowboys quarterback completed 22 of 34 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns, but his interception late in the first half became one of the game’s most important turning points.

Instead, Giants safety Jevon Holland made a sliding interception.

New York subsequently scored a touchdown, taking control of the game.

Prescott himself acknowledged the mistake afterward, saying he needed to make sure the ball reached the sideline.

But there is currently no credible report confirming that Prescott has been handed a massive NFL fine for that play.

Javonte Williams Could Face NFL Punishment

The Cowboys player attracting significant attention is running back Javonte Williams.

Williams scored twice against the Giants, including a 17-yard touchdown reception from Prescott in the fourth quarter.

However, immediately before crossing the goal line, Williams extended the football toward Giants safety Tyler Nubin in what officials deemed a taunting gesture.

That penalty was particularly costly because it moved the extra-point attempt back, and Brandon Aubrey subsequently missed the longer kick.

The NFL is expected to review the incident for possible disciplinary action.

According to reports citing the league’s fine structure, a first taunting offense carries a potential fine of $11,941, while a second offense can carry a larger penalty.

That means Williams could soon receive an expensive reminder about the NFL’s rules surrounding taunting.

DeMarvion Overshown Also Drew Attention

Williams was not the only Cowboy involved in a potentially punishable incident.

Officials immediately called unnecessary roughness and awarded New York an additional 15 yards.

Reports subsequently suggested Overshown could also face a fine after the play.

That potential discipline would add another layer to an already frustrating opening night for Dallas.

Donovan Ezeiruaku Could Also Be Fined

Rookie linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku also came under scrutiny following a fourth-quarter facemask penalty involving Dart.

The incident occurred during a Giants drive as New York attempted to close out its victory.

Reports indicate that Ezeiruaku could face an NFL fine as a result of the penalty.

The Bigger Problem for the Cowboys

The potential fines are only a small part of the story.

Dallas’ biggest concern is what happened on the scoreboard.

The Giants controlled possession for more than 36 minutes and converted nine of their first 10 third-down attempts.

Jaxson Dart threw for 230 yards and three touchdowns while also adding 54 rushing yards.

The Giants finished with 394 total yards.

Dallas, meanwhile, struggled to stop the run and repeatedly allowed New York to sustain long drives.

For a Cowboys team that spent the offseason rebuilding its defense, the performance immediately raised uncomfortable questions.

Dak Prescott Now Faces Pressure to Respond

Despite the loss, Prescott remains the central figure in Dallas’ offensive plans.

His two touchdown passes helped keep the Cowboys within striking distance, and both came to major offseason offensive pieces.

But the interception before halftime remains the play Prescott himself identified as crucial.

“I’ve got to make sure it’s out of bounds,” Prescott said afterward, acknowledging that the mistake helped change the game.

The quarterback now has an opportunity to respond in Week 2.

Cowboys Turn Their Attention to Washington

Dallas returns home next week for its first home game of the 2026 season.

The Cowboys will host the Washington Commanders on September 20 at AT&T Stadium.

That game could provide an immediate opportunity for Dallas to erase some of the frustration from New York.

For now, however, the NFL fine story remains more complicated than the viral headlines suggest.

Dak Prescott has not been confirmed as the Cowboys player facing a massive fine.

Instead, Javonte Williams, DeMarvion Overshown and Donovan Ezeiruaku are the Dallas players currently linked in reports to possible NFL discipline.

And after a 28-20 loss that exposed plenty of problems, Cowboys fans will be watching closely to see whether the NFL’s next announcement brings another financial blow to America’s Team.
