SAD NEWS: FORMER GREEN BAY PACKERS STAR MOURNS THE LOSS OF HIS SON

A heartbreaking loss has left the Green Bay Packers family mourning.

Former Packers linebacker Brady Poppinga and his family suffered an unimaginable tragedy with the death of his son, Julius Poppinga, in 2023.

Julius was only 17 years old.

The young athlete had been passionate about football and lacrosse and dreamed of one day following in his father’s footsteps by playing college football and potentially reaching the NFL.

But that dream was tragically cut short.

According to reports surrounding the family’s subsequent wrongful-death lawsuit, Julius experienced serious breathing problems before being hospitalized. His family later alleged that his condition was not properly diagnosed. An autopsy identified a pulmonary embolism as the cause of death.

For Brady Poppinga, the loss was about much more than football.

It was the loss of a son.

A brother.

A young man his family described as compassionate, athletic and deeply caring toward others.

Julius had hoped to continue his family’s football tradition.

His father played more than 100 NFL games and won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers. Julius had developed ambitions of playing college football and eventually reaching the NFL himself.

He was also involved in lacrosse and had interests far beyond sports.

Those who remembered him described a teenager with a wide range of interests, a strong personality and a desire to help others.

His family has continued to honor his memory since his passing.
